How Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) Can Take Years Off Your Face

How Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) Can Take Years Off Your Face

A hallmark of getting older is noticeably sagging skin. Your skin becomes thin, dry, and dull as it stretches over time and the muscles that support it weaken. Saggy skin can be frustrating and hurt your self-confidence.

Aging skin can be especially noticeable on your face and around your eyes. Droopy eyelids can make you look older than you are, and extra fat may collect around your eyes, adding to the overall tired, baggy look. The extra fat in combination with your sagging eyelids can lead to:

  1. Drooping eyebrows
  2. Drooping upper eyelids
  3. Bags under your eyes
  4. Decreased peripheral vision

At UltraVision, our doctors are here to help. We regularly perform eyelid surgery, known as blepharoplasty, to remove the extra skin around your eyes that’s making you look older. Blepharoplasty is a common procedure to improve the appearance of your eye area, making you look younger and more alert.

Eyelid surgery can make a dramatic difference in your appearance. Sagging, droopy eyelids that are common with age can make you look older and tired, and make you feel self-conscious. In some cases, drooping eyelids can interfere with your vision, decreasing peripheral vision and partly covering your pupils.

Blepharoplasty removes the extra sagging skin around your eyes, tightening your eyelids. Removing the extra skin, fat, and muscle that are pooling around your eyes greatly changes your appearance and your self-confidence. Eyelid surgery can make you look well-rested and alert, taking years off your face. Lower eyelid surgery can help improve the look of under-eye bags, too.

When you come to UltraVision, our expert team consults with you to help you decide if blepharoplasty is the right treatment for your drooping eyelids. The results of blepharoplasty are dependent on each individual, but for many patients, eyelid surgery results last a lifetime.

If you choose eyelid surgery at UltraVision, we discuss your medical history and your goals for the procedure. We’ll help you understand what to expect from blepharoplasty.

Before surgery, we’ll typically take photographs of your eyes and eyelids from different angles. We use the photos to plan your surgical procedure and assess postsurgical results.

To prepare for the procedure, we’ll numb your eyelid area and may give you medication to help you relax. Then our ophthalmologist cuts along the natural eyelid crease, removes excess skin, and removes or repositions any fat deposits.

Blepharoplasty is normally an outpatient procedure at our office, so you’ll be able to go home the same day. Some common, temporary side effects of blepharoplasty include light sensitivity, blurred vision, watery eyes, and numb eyelids. Be sure to follow our guidelines for recovery, which usually include applying ice packs regularly and avoiding strenuous activity for about a week.

You can expect the swelling and bruising to disappear after about two weeks. Any scars will be hidden in the natural folds of your eyelids, but will fade over time as well. After eyelid surgery, you’re left with wider-looking eyes, a more alert and younger appearance, and fresh confidence.

Stop living with sagging eyelids that make you feel older than you are and impede your vision. Let us help you take years off your face with eyelid surgery. To set up your initial consultation, schedule it online or call one of our offices in San Antonio, New Braunfels, or Eagle Pass, Texas.
