1. What are cataracts?
Cataracts occur when proteins in your eye begin to clump together and form a cloud over your natural lens. Cataracts develop at varying rates and can occur in one eye or both. They are more common as you get older, although you can also develop cataracts after an eye injury.Initially, your UltraVision eye doctor may recommend glasses to help improve your vision; if cataracts worsen, your doctor may recommend corrective surgery. During cataract surgery, your eye surgeon removes the cloudy lens and replaces it with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). Following surgery, you may no longer need your glasses.
2. What is Zepto?
Zepto is an FDA-approved advanced treatment system that uses pulsed light technology to remove your cloudy lens with precision and efficiency, in a procedure called a capsulotomy.
Unlike other surgical techniques used to remove cataracts, the Zepto system is designed to provide you with personalized cataract removal. Like your fingerprints, your eyes are unique to you, and you need individualized treatment to get the most accurate results.
The eye surgery specialists at UltraVision combine Zepto with the Verion™ Image Guided System, which creates a detailed image and measurement of your eye to ensure your cataract surgery is a success, which means better vision and freedom from glasses.
Zepto is especially beneficial when used for more complicated cases, such as cataracts with astigmatism.
3. What can I expect during treatment with Zepto?
To ease any discomfort, your UltraVision eye surgeon begins your Zepto procedure by administering a topical anesthetic to the eye being treated. Then, with precision and accuracy, the pulsed light from the Zepto removes your cataract.
After your cataract has been removed, your eye surgeon places your IOL and closes the incisions. Generally, if you have cataracts in both eyes, only one is removed at a time.
You may have some eye discomfort for the first few days after surgery, and it typically takes up to eight weeks for your eye to completely heal.
